Puppy Class 101

Why are puppy obedience classes so important?

This is the prime time to be introducing your puppy to new people, places and things, including other animals. Enrolling your pup is a great way to begin developing their social skills. Puppies need socialization to become more confident as adults in addition to developing their personalities. Between the ages of 2 and 4 months,  your puppy is in  his "sensitive stage." This means that your puppy is very impressioniable. He will vividly remember whatever he experiences during this time, whether his experiences are positive or negative.

What to expect during these classes

  • Basics of positive refinforcement, socialization, and desensitization.
  • Commands "Sit," "Down," and "Come"
  • Leash walking
  • Monitored play time
  • Problem behaviors and prevention
  • A practice Doctor's visit
  • Introduction to new surfaces, sights, and sounds
  • Pass the puppy game
  • Potty training & crate training

Requirements

  • Your puppy must be between 8 and 16 weeks.
  • Must have the first set of vaccines (Distemper & Bordetella) and a Fecal Test and 1st deworming (if needed) at least 7 days prior to class.
  • Cleared health check from a veterinarian
  • A non-retractable leash
  • Very small treats (even cut up hot dogs or cheerios would work)
